- Pankaj Gupta did his Post Graduation in Economics (Hons) from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani in 1983. He joined as Director in SIAM in September 2000.
- Before joining SIAM, he worked for 15 years in Industry Associations and has been focussing on policy making and areas of public policy. In SIAM as head of Economic Affairs group he is responsible for all matters relating to automobile industry including interactions with State Governments where pollution and safety form a major part of the interactions.
- He is Secretary of some of the committees in SIAM which also deliberates in the area of public policy where he heads a group in conveying the corporate citizen's roles of automobile industry to all stakeholders through periodic publications, seminars, workshops etc.
